Frequently Asked Questions
How can therapy help me?
Therapy can be a safe space to explore your challenges, gain new insights, and build healthy coping strategies. Many people come to therapy for support with concerns like anxiety, depression, relationship stress, grief, or life transitions. Others seek counseling to work on self-esteem, identity, personal growth, or simply to have a supportive place to process life’s ups and downs.
Some benefits of therapy may include:
- Better understanding of yourself, your goals, and your values
- Healthier ways to cope with stress, anxiety, and emotional pressures
- Improved communication and relationship skills
- Support in changing old patterns and developing new ones
- Increased self-confidence and resilience
Do I really need therapy? I usually handle my problems on my own.
It’s normal to wonder if therapy is “necessary.” Many people who start therapy are capable, strong, and have managed challenges before. Choosing therapy doesn’t mean you can’t handle things — it means you’re giving yourself extra support and space to grow.
Seeking help is a sign of strength and self-awareness, not a sign of weakness. Therapy can provide lasting benefits by helping you recognize patterns, manage stress more effectively, and create healthier ways of responding to life’s challenges.
Why do people go to therapy, and how do I know if it’s right for me?
People seek therapy for many reasons — adjusting to a life transition, navigating stress, processing trauma, or addressing struggles with mood, self-esteem, or relationships. Others come simply because they want to know themselves better and live with more intention.
If you find yourself feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or ready to make meaningful changes, therapy can provide the guidance, tools, and encouragement you need.
What is therapy like?
Every person and every session is different because therapy is tailored to your needs. In general, you can expect to:
- Talk about what’s happening in your life right now
- Explore past experiences that may be impacting you.
- Identify patterns or behaviors you’d like to change.
- Develop strategies and tools you can use outside of sessions.
Therapy works best when it’s a collaborative process. You’ll get the most out of it if you’re open, engaged, and willing to practice new skills between sessions. My role is to walk alongside you, offering support, insight, and strategies that fit your goals.
Is what we discuss confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is one of the most important foundations of therapy. What you share in session stays private, with only a few legal and ethical exceptions:
- Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult
- Serious risk of harm to yourself or others
In all other situations, your privacy is protected. If you’d like me to share information with another professional (such as your doctor), I’ll only do so with your written permission.

Please check with your insurance company to understand your mental health benefits, including co-pays, deductibles, and coverage for out-of-network services.
How long will therapy take?
The length of therapy depends on your goals and the challenges you’re facing. Some people come for just a few sessions to work through a specific concern, while others choose longer-term therapy to address deeper patterns or continue their personal growth. We’ll talk about your goals early on and check in regularly to make sure therapy continues to feel helpful and aligned with what you need.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which provide consistency and momentum. Over time, some people move to bi-weekly or monthly sessions as they progress and feel more confident using their tools independently. Together, we’ll decide on a schedule that feels supportive and realistic for you.
Who do you work with?
I work with adolescents, adults, and couples, and I warmly welcome clients from diverse backgrounds, including members of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. My approach is person-centered, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed. Whether you’re navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, identity concerns, or emotional struggles, my goal is to create a safe and supportive space for your healing and growth.
